Of the 15 finals played, none were more intriguing as the fight for the Blue Shell Open Mens Singles match between James Ho and Calvin Che. The two highly ranked junior players put up a great show even with an unintended blackout during the middle of the match. In the end, James Ho came out victorious in three grueling sets.
In other events, it appears the winners just kept on winning. Mike Nguyen showed he is not just a doubles superstar by taking both doubles (with Mickey Chow) and mix doubles (with Cynthia To) in the Blue Shell Category. The resounding victories make us wonder if there are any teams out there that can beat team Beyond?
Cynthia To would go on to also win the Red Shell Womens Doubles category once again with Veronica Lo. As well, former red shell open mens singles champion Jenkens Leung reminded us of his presence again by beating Jamie Arseneau in the finals.
YoYo Chen took our attention as she defeated regular Blue Shell Women Singles winner Joanna Che in three sets. Does this signal the increasing strength to the Blue Shell Women Singles category? Let’s hope so.
