Net malfunction and unexpected delays could not stop Badmintology Wizrd of Waltz Open held at Moscrop Secondary School.
Being a two day tournament, the action was jam packed and it kicked off with the Blue and Red Shell Men Singles bright and early in the morning.
Multi time semi-finalists David Tsai finally broke through this time as he won Blue Shell Men Singles over Stevie Fung. For Red Shell Men Singles, Trevor Yu took the title home in a three set match over Harryson Hu. Harryson would not go home empty handed in the end as he and Johnson Ma teamed up to win the Red Shell Mens Doubles over another former singles champion, Jenkens Leung and his partner, Austin Doong.
Then it was off to the Blue and Red Shell Womens Doubles where we saw the badminton prowess of Eastbay Badminton Association from the United States as Americans Carol Quach and Donna Tran met in the finals against each other. Carol and Rosalynn Chong would be victorious over Donna and Crystal Chow. I have since lost count at how many times Rosalynn has won a Badmintology tournament.
The red shell women doubles saw the team of Isabelle Tang/ Chelsey Yang as winners. This means an automatic promotion for the team as they have since won twice in the same season. Welcome to Blue Shell girls!
Furthermore, Chelsey won comfortably in Red Shell Women Singles over Fion Chen. However, she could not triple crown as her and David Dryden lost to the eventual winners – Henry Liang and Jamie Shum.
The Blue Shell Mens Doubles saw a final match between the old and the young. Samuel Wadsworth and Bryan Yee, season 1 winners took on Eric Hsu and Tony Chen. Alas, veteran experience was no match for youthful vigor as Sam and Bryan did not have enough in the third set and lost 21-15. A sign for the future to come? We shall see.
Don’t feel too bad for Sam though cause he would eventually get his winner shirt with Daisy Lee as they beat Mickey Chow and Crystal Chow in the finals of the tournament in a nail biting three sets. The final score in was 21-12, 14-21, 25-23.
As usual, all winners from Green Shell events will be promoted and refrain from playing Green shell in the event they won. Therefore, we congratulate the following teams:

-Mix doubles – Hiu Ming Pun and Genny Chow

Thank you everyone that participated. We realize there were challenges with the gym and a little bit of the delay due to the net situation. As usual, we will review and look to improve for the next tournament.
The next tournament will be at VRC on March 8-10th. Please find your partners early and sign up once entries are open. The draw size will be limited and they do fill out fast!
